Another thing that I never quite understood is why is it that only these kids are able to pilot the Evas. I've never seen the entire show, and I haven't finished the manga series yet, so can somebody please tell me why these 14-year old kids can pilot the Evas and no one past that age can.

well I've never seen it, but from the fan fictions I've read, its in a bit of a gray area. Some say yes she dies, but Shinji brings her back unwittingly. Some say yes she dies, but she rejects Instrumentality on her own. Some say no, she was just badly injured. I suppose it's all up to your own interpretation. Also, keep an eye out on Winamp TV. Sometimes they play End of Eva, so you'd probably want to get a good connection.

Rei's face is a result of contamination from the 16th angel, she the chosses to sacrifice herself and unit 00 in order to save shinji, this is the episode in which you first see all the clone Rei's, the image of unit 00 in the backround was just simply taken from the time shinji tries to sync with it, this picture (in it's whole) is no real event in the series. (unless it is and i have made myself look like a douch.)
