In 'real-life' you would not see the mako energy unless he looked directly at you. And really, how much of THIS Cloud have you actually seen? If the style has changed to be more photo-real we can't expect the characters to have exactly-the-same hair/clothes/accessories etc. because they would look out of place. and "Sephiroth looking gay?", please! This Sephiroth looks exactly how he would look if he were a real guy. You wouldn't say he looked gay to THAT face would you? (don't lie). Just let the creators of this movie (the same team who brought you all FF7) Do what they will with this property. If its even half as good as the game, it just may be the greatest anime/fantasy/video-game movie EVER. In the very least, it'll make us forget that horrible FF movie from a couple years back (though Dr.Aki Ross was HOT!).
